Volunteers from the AmeriCorps Seniors Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) were recognized for their service at an event held at the Balloon Fiesta Park Event Center. The ceremony, attended by First Lady Elizabeth Kistin Keller and the Department of Senior Affairs, honored 53 volunteers for their contributions to museums, senior centers, nonprofits, and other community organizations in the city.
The volunteers received pins marking milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 40 years of service. Among them was Dorothy Otto, a 94-year-old volunteer recognized for her remarkable commitment of over 40 years and more than 10,000 hours of service. Dorothy has volunteered at various locations including the Albuquerque International Balloon Museum and Bear Canyon Senior Center.
Dorothy Otto expressed her gratitude saying, “Volunteering has been a big part of my life, and I’m so grateful for the experiences and friendships it’s given me. I encourage everyone to volunteer because helping others, even in small ways, can make a big difference.”
First Lady Elizabeth Kistin Keller praised the honorees stating, “Today’s volunteer honorees remind us of the incredible impact we can make when we step up for our community. Their dedication makes Albuquerque stronger, and their selflessness inspires us all.”
