Bernalillo County is organizing a public meeting to discuss the future of the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. The event, scheduled for February 26 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., will be held at the African American Performing Arts Center located at 310 San Pedro NE. The county's Economic Development Department and Vice Chair Adriann Barboa are hosting this meeting to inform the public about the master plan process and the proposed Tax Increment Developmental District (TIDD).

The Board of Commissioners had previously reviewed a resolution on January 28 concerning the creation of a TIDD in this area, with a vote on its formation set for March 11.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced in December that a request for proposal had been issued to establish a master plan for these 236 acres, potentially including multi-use housing and other economic revitalization projects.

Vice Chair Adriann Barboa emphasized the importance of community involvement in this initiative, stating, “If successful, this master plan and TIDD will mean millions of dollars of investment into the International District, and this February 26 meeting is to be transparent and engage community in the process.” She added confidence in collaboration with local leaders to ensure neighborhood prosperity.

Officials from Expo New Mexico will join county representatives at the meeting to address any questions from residents. For further details, inquiries can be directed to District3@bernco.gov.
