Bernalillo County's Youth Services Center (YSC) is collaborating with elected officials and stakeholder groups to address a recent increase in juvenile intake. The center has reached its capacity for male juveniles, with all 66 beds occupied, and is approaching capacity for female juveniles. The facility can accommodate up to 78 residents.
In the previous year, the average daily population at YSC was 54, with residents staying from two days to nearly three years.
To manage this situation, YSC is seeking new recruits for positions as youth program officer I and II. These officers are responsible for maintaining security, order, and discipline within the facility to ensure the safety of residents, staff, and the community. The roles offer benefits such as medical insurance, paid time off, retirement plans, and a $5,000 sign-on incentive after completing a nine-month probationary period.
Those interested in applying can visit www.bernco.gov/jobs. Additionally, YSC will hold a rapid hire job fair on Saturday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where applicants can present their resumes.
Deputy County Manager of Public Safety Greg Perez and YSC Director Tamera Marcantel will be available for media interviews on Friday, Feb. 21 between 1 and 3 p.m.
