BernCo has initiated the construction of a new Fire Station #36, located on Edith Boulevard NE near Osuna Road NE. This facility will have the distinction of featuring New Mexico's first electric fire truck. The station will also utilize an on-site solar energy system.

The new station is set to replace an older facility on Bear Canyon Road. Its infrastructure will include 12 bunks, four apparatus bays, showers, a day room, a kitchen, and various support services. Community feedback has been influential in the creation of this project, leading to the inclusion of a community outreach building, as requested by local residents.

The development of the station has a budget of around $15.8 million. Funding sources include Bernalillo County general funds, public safety bonds, fire impact fees, and grants from the State of New Mexico. SMPC Architects have completed the design, and HB Construction is tasked with building the facility. Project completion is projected for December 2026.
