As my elected term comes to an end, I want to say thank you to the residents and property owners of Bernalillo County for entrusting me, for over a decade, to serve as your Assessor. It has been an honor to serve the community I was born and raised, and that my family has been a part of for generations.

Over these last 10 years, my administration has had huge successes! Working as a team, we laid a stable foundation and continued to build upon it, year after year as we sought to improve our processes for efficiency, transparency, and for ensuring fair and equitable property values for the entire county. While also being a voice for the property owners and the entities that are the recipients of the property tax revenue.

I am proud of the investments and accomplishments my team, and I, have made; we orchestrated increases in our IT infrastructure in support of property information and appraisal data collection, and calculations, organizational changes were introduced, allowing for staff development and advancement, quality control measures were instituted with the creation of a quality control department, we developed on-going canvass projects for all property roles to ensure the accounting of all taxable properties in the county, organized legislative initiatives to help improve the property tax code, and provided community and educational outreach efforts to ensure veterans, families, and all eligible property owners are taking advantage of exemptions available to them.

It took time, commitment and focus to build the Office of the Assessor to where it is now; an efficient, transparent, ethical, professional county government agency where taxpayers can expect to receive the highest level of customer service that they can be both confident and proud of.
