City Councilor Dan Lewis for District 5 has successfully acquired funding for the repainting of the Paseo del Norte bridge over Coors Boulevard in Albuquerque. This project addresses the bridge’s aging appearance and aims to maintain its structural integrity, as it serves as a vital transportation landmark in the Northwest Mesa.
Councilor Lewis utilized some of his City Council Neighborhood Set-Aside funding sourced from previously voter-approved General Obligation bonds. This effort underscores the partnership between the City of Albuquerque and the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). In the past, this collaboration has facilitated projects like the I-25/Paseo del Norte interchange construction and the “Big I” landscape project.
“Refreshing the bridge shows drivers that the City is paying attention to keeping our infrastructure in the best possible shape,” Councilor Lewis remarked. He noted that tens of thousands of individuals use this intersection annually, emphasizing the need for a well-maintained and visually appealing gateway. He expressed gratitude for NMDOT’s cooperation and collaboration in bringing this project to fruition.
The Paseo del Norte overpass, nearing its 40th anniversary, has experienced paint fading and water streaking, necessitating revitalization. To protect its steel beams and improve its appearance, the bridge will be painted in the NMDOT’s “Deseret Sunset” color scheme.
The project's commencement is expected in early to mid-summer 2025, with completion by year-end. This repainting aims to enhance the visual landscape and ensure the longevity and safety of this pivotal infrastructure.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure that serves our community,” Councilor Lewis added. He stated that the city’s landmarks should reflect the pride residents hold in Albuquerque.
