The University of New Mexico (UNM) is set to commence its annual Advance faculty development workshops this week. These workshops, held every spring semester, offer a variety of sessions aimed at supporting faculty in their professional growth.

This year's lineup includes an AI Research Workshop led by UNM Computer Science Professor Melanie Moses. Other series workshops include “Finding Stable Ground in Times of Change,” “Promotion Planning for Associate Professors,” and two dossier preparation sessions. Additionally, there will be three UNM Faculty Lightning Lounge sessions where faculty members present their research in brief 7-minute segments followed by Q&A and networking opportunities.

The UNM Faculty Lightning Lounge sessions are scheduled for February 19 via Zoom, March 26 in-person, and April 16 also in-person at Ortega Hall Reading Room.

The "Finding Stable Ground in Times of Change" workshop on February 21 will be facilitated by UNM Ombuds Heidi Ricci. This session aims to help participants navigate stressful times effectively.

On February 28, the AI Research Workshop with Professor Moses and Research IT Manager Grace Faustino will explore the current state of AI use in research. The discussion will cover best practices, potential pitfalls, and policies surrounding AI both at UNM and federally.

The "Promotion Planning for Associate Professors" workshop on March 7 will address the journey from associate professor to full professor, offering guidance on navigating expectations across various academic levels.

A session titled "Managing Caregiver Stress," organized in collaboration with the Family Caregiver Center of NM, is scheduled for March 28. It focuses on providing self-care strategies for caregivers managing stress related to caring for adults with chronic conditions.

UNM's Spring 2025 Teaching Conference and Teaching Excellence Awards are planned for April 9-10. Dr. Leola Tsinnajinnie Paquin will deliver the keynote speech. Dr. Paquin is an associate professor of Native American studies and serves as the University’s Presidential Teaching Fellow from 2024-26.

Dossier preparation workshops are also part of the schedule: one focused on promotion to professor on April 11 and another on reappointment or lecturer promotion on April 25. Both events will take place at Ortega Hall.
