Jason Quinn has been promoted to the position of director of engineering at New Mexico PBS (NMPBS). Previously, he served as the manager of broadcast technology. This announcement was made by Franz Joachim, general manager and CEO of NMPBS.
Joachim stated that Quinn's leadership played a significant role in his promotion. “Jason leads a team of outstanding professionals whose dedication to keeping us on air, expanding our broadcast footprint, and pushing us farther along the edge of new technology, is noteworthy for its excellence,” said Joachim.
In his new role, Quinn will oversee 35 mountaintop translator sites and NMPBS facilities located on Sandia Crest and in Albuquerque. This responsibility is crucial as the NMPBS signal reaches most areas within the state.
Quinn’s commitment to community values and innovation were among the reasons for his promotion. He has provided exceptional service to the University of New Mexico (UNM) over several years. His colleagues at NMPBS are enthusiastic about his advancement to director of engineering.
“I am honored to be a 2024 recipient of this prestigious award, and I strive to continue to serve NMPBS at UNM to my fullest capabilities,” said Quinn. “I extend my thanks to my entire team for allowing me the privilege to work alongside them as we continue to move our department forward.”
Quinn recently received one of the 2024 Gerald W. May Staff Recognition Awards for distinguished service and dedication to UNM. His peers nominated him due to his selfless service and dedication, sharing stories such as handling a critical outage at Sandia Crest on Christmas Eve instead of spending time with family.
His coworkers also recalled when Quinn led efforts with his RF team to construct three tower sites for the Navajo Nation. These towers not only support PBS’s educational programming but also provide an emergency alert system for rural communities.
“For anyone who knows him, this comes as no surprise,” Joaquim remarked. “Jason’s service to the University is only exceeded by his dedication and stellar service to the station… Congratulations.”
