U.S. News & World Report has published its 2025 Best Graduate Schools rankings, highlighting several programs from The University of New Mexico (UNM). Among them, the Nursing Midwifery program stands out at number 10. Overall, 27 of the university's programs are ranked in the top 100, covering various graduate and survey-based disciplines.

The rankings are exclusively for graduate programs, differing from U.S. News & World Report's rankings for undergraduate and online programs. Annually, the publication focuses on different programs.

UNM's standings in the six academic disciplines where schools provide statistical surveys are noteworthy: Business (Full-Time and Part-Time), Education, Engineering, Law (Full-Time and Part-Time), Medical (Primary Care and Research), and Nursing (MSN and DNP).

In business, the Part-Time MBA is ranked 64 (tied), while Education is listed at 81 (tie). In engineering disciplines, Nuclear Engineering is ranked 15 (tie) and others like Environmental Engineering and Computer Engineering follow at 66 (tie) and 79 (tie) respectively.

In medicine, Clinical Psychology holds the 71st spot (tie), and Public Health is 84 (tie). The Best Nursing Schools for the Doctor of Nursing Practice program is ranked 92 (tie).

The law school at UNM has notable rankings, particularly for producing graduates in Federal Clerkships at 11 (tie) and Clinical Training at 14 (tie). More graduates are reported to practice in primary care, Health Professional Shortage Areas, and rural areas, ranked at 14, 23, and 60 respectively.

Other notable rankings in survey-based disciplines for UNM include Nursing Midwifery at 10 (tie), Speech Language Pathology at 48 (tie), and Physical Therapy at 65 (tie), which improved 27 places from the previous year.

The U.S. News rankings evaluate program excellence through expert opinion and statistical indicators, assessing the quality of faculty, research, students, and their post-graduate achievements. This data is gathered through surveys and peer assessments conducted last fall and early this year, sometimes combined with third-party information.
