The City Council of Albuquerque has introduced a new bill, Council Bill No. O-24-61, aimed at addressing vacant buildings in the downtown area. Sponsored by Joaquin Baca, the ordinance seeks to encourage economic development by implementing registration and fees for these properties.
Titled the "Downtown Vacant Premises Ordinance," this measure is set to be incorporated as a new article in Chapter 14 of the Revised Ordinances of Albuquerque 1994. The primary objective is to activate unused buildings within the city's core.
The ordinance also proposes amendments to Section 14-3-5-14 of the Uniform Housing Code, specifically regarding "Vacant Building Maintenance." This change includes adding a cross-reference to the newly proposed Downtown Vacant Premises Ordinance.
