Bernalillo County Commissioners have approved funding for the construction of a new skate park at Los Vecinos Community Center. The project, sponsored by Chair Eric Olivas, will be financed through the county’s general funds.

The plan involves replacing the existing modular metal skate park with a poured-in-place design located closer to the community center on the north edge of the site. The completion is anticipated by Fall 2025. This will mark the first poured skate park in the East Mountain area.

“The new skate park is just one of many upgrades currently underway at Los Vecinos,” stated Chair Olivas. “This community center hosts a variety of activities for all ages and a new skate park will enhance the safety and experience for beginners and seasoned skateboarders.”

In addition to the skate park, renovations include updates to the soccer field, playground, shade structures, drainage facilities, lighting fixtures, irrigation system, basketball court with multi-use capabilities for pickleball play, a new stage, and other amenities designed to support special events.
