Albuquerque Community Safety (ACS) has reactivated its overnight emergency shelter transportation hotline to protect individuals experiencing homelessness from the cold and wet weather. This service, which began on November 1, aims to provide safe shelter for those in need.

In November, ACS successfully transported 496 people to shelters across Albuquerque. Mayor Tim Keller emphasized the importance of this initiative: "We’re offering a bed to anyone who needs it, and a safe place to rest away from the freezing weather." He noted that ACS's ability to transport individuals fills a critical gap during cold nights.

The service operates daily until March 2025, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Those requiring assistance can contact the ACS hotline at 505-418-6178 for transportation to available shelters.

Walter Adams, ACS Deputy Director of Field Operations, highlighted the dedication of their team: "Our overnight team is dedicated to making sure that no one has to face the cold alone.” He stressed that providing shelter during extreme temperatures is crucial for safety.

ACS collaborates with various shelters to ensure essential services are provided. With forecasts predicting below-freezing temperatures, ACS remains vigilant and prepared to assist those needing help.

ACS functions as Albuquerque’s third branch of public safety, addressing calls related to behavioral health, substance use, and other non-criminal issues. For emergencies or non-emergencies involving these concerns, residents can request an ACS Responder by calling 911 or 311 respectively.
