The University of New Mexico is set to participate in the global #GivingTuesday movement on December 3. This initiative, launched in 2012 by the Belfer Center for Innovation and Social Impact at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, encourages people worldwide to engage in acts of generosity.
"Giving Tuesday is a worldwide movement of generosity designed to unleash the power of people and organizations to benefit their communities."
At UNM, several opportunities are available for community members wishing to contribute. One such opportunity is through the annual UNM Gives Campaign, conducted in partnership with United Way of North Central New Mexico (UWNCNM). The campaign aims to improve family stability and access to education across New Mexico. Donations can be made online or via paper, offering a convenient way for UNM employees to participate during the holiday season.
"As our community struggles with various challenges, your support and compassion have never been more critical."
For those interested in non-monetary contributions, the Lobo Food Pantry accepts physical donations at year-end. "The Lobo Food Pantry is seeking physical donations at the end of the year to help keep its shelves full after record-high use again this semester." Donations can include food and toiletries, with arrangements possible for campus pickup or drop-off.
Another initiative, the Little Lobo Holiday Wish Fund (LLHWF), seeks to assist student parents by providing $100 gift cards. "The goal is to raise $10,000 to provide 100 Lobo families with $100 gift cards."
Additionally, donations can be made through the UNM Foundation throughout the year. The foundation supports causes such as scholarships and internships for students.
"Individuals can donate in cash, check, or they can give with non-cash items on the UNM Foundations website."
