Artist Karen Yank Selected for the Sunport Boulevard Extension Public Art Project:After extensive review of 22 proposals, the public art selection committee has chosen artist Karen Yank as the finalist for the Sunport Boulevard Extension Public Art Project. The committee first selected three semi-finalists from the 22 proposals submitted by New Mexico-based artists: Edward Haddaway, Anthony Hyde, and Karen Yank.Artist Karen Yank is the recipient of the 2022 New Mexico Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts. She has created more than 50 large-scale public sculptures to date. These projects have resulted in several awards including for Aesthetics and Public Involvement; the PRIDE Award from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association, the Golden Cumbre Award from the New Mexico Public Relations Society of America, and the Americans for the Arts Kris Art of Giving Award.The public art project has a budget of $60,000 and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2023.For more information about the Bernalillo County Public Art Program, please visit: https://www.bernco.gov/.../cultural.../public-art-program/.Congratulations, Karen!
