The City of Albuquerque is taking steps to enhance its support system for families experiencing homelessness. A new partnership has been approved by the City Council, which involves Youth Development Incorporated (YDI) in providing housing navigation services. This initiative will aid families in their transition from homelessness to permanent housing.
Gateway Family currently supports around 65 families and 120 children. The facility offers shelter, school connections, and early childhood services. Families collaborate with onsite case managers, focusing on housing and employment goals.
Since 1971, YDI has served the community, offering a range of programs for children, youth, and families. Their community presence and experience position them well to manage family-focused services at Gateway.
Mayor Tim Keller commented on the development, saying, “We continue to build a first-of-its-kind system that goes beyond shelter. With strong partners like YDI, we’re walking alongside families on their path to stable housing, treatment, and a better future.”
Gilbert Ramirez, the Health, Housing, and Homelessness Director, expressed gratitude to the City Council for their support in this initiative. He stated, “Together with our partners, we’re working to offer families real opportunities to regain housing and rebuild their lives.”
