Melanie Stansbury, currently serving as a U.S Congresswoman for New Mexico’s 1st district, has been vocal on social media, addressing various topics from fiscal management to historical site visits. Her tweets reflect her engagement with both federal matters and local cultural significance.
On April 19, 2025, Stansbury posted a critical comment on Twitter regarding decisions pertaining to government efficiency initiatives, stating, "It’s almost as if DOGE isn’t *actually* about cutting waste, fraud, and abuse… ".
Later that day, Stansbury shared her experiences during a visit to historic sites in New Mexico, writing, "Did you know NM-01 is Billy the Kid Country? This week we visited Lincoln County and spent time with State Cultural Affairs visiting the sites of the Lincoln County War—and THE jail where Billy the Kid escaped. So much amazing history in our state!".
In a separate tweet the same evening, Stansbury expressed concerns about asset management under the Trump Administration. Regarding a federal property sale, she stated, "Recently, the Trump Administration posted that they intend to sell 440 federal properties without so much as asking federal agencies what those buildings are used for and who could lose their jobs.".
Stansbury has been a representative for New Mexico's 1st district since 2021, after taking over from Deb Haaland. Her legislative experience includes service in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2019 to 2021. Born in Farmington, New Mexico, Stansbury, 44, is an alumna of Saint Mary's College of California and resides in Albuquerque.
