Representative Melanie Stansbury, serving New Mexico’s 1st district in Congress, recently shared a series of statements on legislative developments through her social media platform. Stansbury's remarks focus on fiscal policies and public engagement within her constituency.

On April 9, 2025, Rep. Stansbury addressed a bill proposing permanent tax cuts for high earners. She criticized the bill, suggesting it would significantly increase the national deficit by offering substantial tax breaks to billionaires at the expense of average citizens. Stansbury stated a firm position against the bill, saying, “We will vote no.”

The following day, on April 10, Stansbury commented further on legislative developments. In a subsequent update, she highlighted that Republicans had withdrawn their budget and tax proposal due to internal party disagreements. Fiscal conservatives within the House had sought more extensive reductions in social and necessary programs to finance tax cuts for wealthy individuals. Stansbury provided an insight into the ongoing budgetary discussions.

On the same day, Stansbury extended an invitation to her constituents in New Mexico’s 1st district to join her for a series of meetings scheduled for the following week. She announced visits to Albuquerque, Moriarty, Fort Sumner, Roswell, and Lincoln County, encouraging public participation and engagement during these events.

Melanie Stansbury, born in Farmington in 1979 and residing in Albuquerque, has been in office since 2021, succeeding Deb Haaland. She previously served in the New Mexico House of Representatives and holds a BA from Saint Mary's College of California.
