U.S. Rep. Melanie Stansbury from New Mexico's 1st congressional district | Official U.S. House Headshot
Representative Melanie Stansbury, serving New Mexico’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress since 2021, recently shared a series of tweets addressing significant issues. Stansbury, who succeeded Deb Haaland and previously served in the New Mexico House of Representatives, has been vocal on topics ranging from veterans' affairs to labor reform.
On March 25, 2025, Rep. Stansbury criticized the current administration's treatment of veterans. She stated: "Let me be clear—the claim that the Administration is not impacting Veterans is a Bold. Face. Lie." She accused the administration of "firing Veterans, gutting programs, erasing history, and threatening our national security."
Later that day, she addressed gender pay inequality with another tweet: "Everyone deserves equal pay for equal work. Period." She emphasized that women still earn less than men and advocated for passing the Paycheck Fairness Act to promote equality.
In a subsequent post on March 25th, Stansbury reflected on historical labor issues: "114 years ago, a fire broke out at the 10-story Triangle Shirtwaist factory in NYC and killed 146 workers..." The incident led to movements advocating for labor reform.
