A book published by the University of New Mexico Press has been highlighted in the January 2025 issue of the Journal of the Print World, a quarterly publication dedicated to fine art on paper. The book, titled "Art, Peace, and Transcendence: Réograms That Elevate and Unite," documents the 50-year career of artist Paul Ré and serves as the foundation for the Paul Bartlett Ré Peace Prize. This prize has recognized 43 individuals and organizations for their contributions to global harmony.
The volume is notable for showcasing Ré’s unique artistic style that combines hand-drawn and digital elements into what he calls “Réograms.” These hybrid prints merge traditional and modern techniques, distinguishing them from Rayograms created by American Surrealist Man Ray in the 20th century. Ré's digital prints involve computer manipulations of his drawings, paintings, and sculptures developed over his career. Each piece is manually refined into a cohesive whole. The book includes commentary from Ré himself, drawing on his background in physics, philosophy, yoga, and meditation to provide historical context for each artwork.
The latest issue of the Journal of the Print World also features Ré’s 2004 piece "Embrace in Hyperspace," a Réogram exploring themes of unity and connection. Additionally, it highlights his newest work from 2024 titled "Let Us Dance in the Darkness," which appears in the journal’s New Works section.
The Paul Bartlett Ré Peace Prize was established to honor those who use art, science, and humanities to promote peace. It continues to celebrate creative efforts aimed at fostering global understanding.
