U.S. Rep. Melanie Stansbury from New Mexico's 1st congressional district | Official U.S. House Headshot
Representative Melanie Stansbury, currently serving New Mexico’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, has voiced concerns over recent governmental actions through a series of tweets. Stansbury, who replaced Deb Haaland in 2021 and previously served in the New Mexico House of Representatives, shared her perspective on the state of affairs under current administration policies.
On March 11, 2025, Rep. Stansbury expressed skepticism about DOGE's operations: "Every day, it’s becoming more and more clear that DOGE isn’t what they say it is. Dismantling agencies, firing tens of thousands of Americans, giving themselves government contracts." She highlighted that even members from both political parties recognize these actions as abnormal.
In another tweet on the same day, she addressed the use of executive powers: "Translation: they are going to keep using 'executive tools' and breaking the law to withhold vital funding for programs enacted by Congress." This includes essential funding for schools, women's shelters, housing initiatives, and veterans' programs.
Later that day, Rep. Stansbury reiterated her concerns about DOGE's conduct: "Every day, it’s becoming more and more clear that DOGE isn’t what they say it is." She again emphasized bipartisan acknowledgment regarding these issues.
