A new sculpture has been installed in Albuquerque’s North Valley, celebrating nature and flight. The City of Albuquerque’s Department of Arts & Culture and the Albuquerque Arts Board have unveiled "Gliding Flight," a steel sculpture by Taos Pueblo artist Sean Rising Sun Flanagan. This installation coincides with the spring migration of Canadian geese.

"The community of the North Valley has a deep appreciation for both nature and creativity, and this sculpture truly reflects the natural beauty of the area," said Mayor Tim Keller. "It serves as a reminder of the connection between our modern daily lives in the city and the wildlife that surrounds us."

Located at Rio Grande Blvd and Candelaria NW, "Gliding Flight" was developed from community input, highlighting local wildlife and plant life near Bosque. The artwork captures the grace of geese traveling through New Mexico along North America's Central Flyway.

"I draw inspiration from the traditional images of my Native American roots which unites deep tradition with the contemporary," said Sean Flanagan.

Commissioned by the Albuquerque Arts Board, "Gliding Flight" features two intersecting depictions of a Canadian goose. It not only celebrates migratory birds but also marks an entrance to Rio Grande Nature Center State Park.

Flanagan's work integrates traditional Native American imagery with geometric and organic forms. With this piece, he encourages reflection on nature within the community.
