Spring is approaching, and pet owners are encouraged to ensure their pets' vaccinations are up-to-date. The City of Albuquerque's Animal Welfare Department (AWD) emphasizes the importance of regular vaccinations for pets, starting with puppy and kitten shots followed by boosters throughout adulthood.
"AWD firmly believes that preventive pet care can have a dramatic impact on the health, quality of life, and longevity of your pets," stated Carolyn Ortega, Director of Animal Welfare Department. "Together, we can keep our furry companions happy, healthy, and safe from preventable diseases."
As warmer weather arrives, many residents enjoy outdoor activities with their pets. However, this season also highlights the number of unvaccinated puppies at risk from deadly but preventable diseases.
Mayor Tim Keller commented on the city's commitment to pet care: “Part of being a pet-friendly city means staying informed and prepared when it comes to pet care,” he said. “As we head into Spring, taking preventive measures can help your family pet enjoy a long and healthy life.”
Vaccinations are recognized as an effective method for ensuring pets live long and healthy lives. They protect against diseases such as rabies and distemper that are common in wildlife and can infect unvaccinated animals. This proactive approach not only prevents illnesses but also avoids costly treatments.
