Commuters in Albuquerque will soon have additional options for e-scooter transportation. Starting March 3, 2025, Beam Mobility is set to install 65 e-scooter stations across the city, accommodating a fleet of up to 1,000 e-scooters. The locations and rental rates are accessible via the free Beam mobile app. These scooters will be painted purple for easy identification.
Beam becomes the third vendor approved under Albuquerque's Shared Active Transportation Program, joining Lime and Spin. This program offers small vehicles like bicycles and e-scooters for short-term rentals to reduce car trips.
Riders must adhere to state and local regulations. Rules applicable to bicycles also apply to e-scooters. Helmets are mandatory for those under 18 and recommended for all users. Riders should travel on the right side of the street with traffic flow and avoid sidewalks when possible.
E-scooters should not be taken onto city buses and must be parked responsibly without obstructing pathways or entrances. Failure to return scooters to designated areas may result in continued billing by the vendor.
Safety remains a priority as roadways can present hazards; riders are urged to stay vigilant at all times. Parking violations or other issues can be reported by calling 1-888-884-4650 or emailing [email protected]. Issues can also be reported through 311 services.
These programs require a permit under Part 8-3-5 of Albuquerque's Code of Ordinances. More information is available at cabq.gov/planning/shared-active-transportation.
