Animal rights advocates in Albuquerque are preparing to protest the Shrine Circus at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. The event, scheduled for Valentine's weekend, has sparked concern among local residents and officials.
City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn voiced her disapproval of the circus's use of animals for entertainment. "The Shrine Circus once again arrives to our City with their exotic animals, compelling them to 'entertain' through coercion and the threat of punishment," she stated. "This year’s protest is an opportunity for Albuquerque residents to remind the Shriner’s that animal cruelty is not welcome in our city."
The peaceful protest will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM outside the Tingley Coliseum Box Office at the New Mexico State Fairgrounds. Participants are advised to dress warmly due to cold evening temperatures and can find free parking a short walk away at Cagua and Copper.
