Bernalillo County has outlined a series of project requests to state lawmakers during the ongoing 60-day legislative session. The county's primary legislative priorities for 2025 include affordable housing, behavioral health care, public safety, early childhood education, and expanding its animal care facility. Each of the county’s five districts has also identified specific legislative priorities.

District 1 is represented by Commissioner Barbara Baca and includes areas such as Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, parts of Downtown Albuquerque, and extends westward along Interstate 40 to the north. It covers regions like Laguna Pueblo, Rio Rancho within county boundaries, the To’Hajilee Navajo Chapter, the far north West Side, and large undeveloped lands between Native American communities and Atrisco Vista Boulevard. The district's main focus for the 2025 legislative session is on maintaining and improving infrastructure as well as enhancing community spaces.
