Two online programs from the University of New Mexico (UNM) have been ranked among the top 50 in the U.S. News & World Report's 2025 Best Online Programs, released on January 21. The Bachelor's in Psychology program at UNM secured the 18th position, while the Bachelor's in Business program was ranked 41st.
Derek Hamilton, chair and professor of the psychology department, expressed pride in their achievement: “We are extremely proud of UNM Psychology’s Accelerated Online Program and honored by this national recognition.” He credited "the hard work and dedication of 11 tenured faculty members and lecturers" as well as "the outstanding support provided by staff members in Psychology."
Hamilton also acknowledged UNM’s Center for Teaching and Learning for its support: “I also want to recognize UNM’s Center for Teaching and Learning for their expert training and support of our online instructors, as well as the tremendous job that Dr. Allen Butt, associate chair for Undergraduate Education in Psychology, has done in coordinating the program and its impact on student success.”
In addition to these achievements, other UNM programs featured within the top 100 include a Master's program in Information Technology at number 62 (tie) and Master's programs in Engineering at number 70. In total, eight UNM programs were recognized in this survey.

U.S. News evaluated over 1,780 online bachelor's and master's degree programs across various disciplines including business, criminal justice, education, engineering, information technology, and nursing for these rankings.
The criteria used by U.S. News include student engagement, faculty credentials, peer assessment, services and technologies offered by institutions, along with student excellence metrics such as undergraduate GPAs and acceptance rates.
