Bernalillo County Assessor Damian Lara recently participated as a speaker at the International Association of Assessing Officers legal conference held in Chicago, Illinois. In collaboration with the assessing software company C3.ai, Lara discussed the use of artificial intelligence within the Assessor’s Office to tackle legal issues and statutes.

During his presentation, Lara introduced a legal chatbot known as the paralegal Assessor’s Community Educator, or A.C.E., which addressed legal inquiries from 16 different conference participants related to the assessment field. Additionally, he highlighted a website chatbot available on the Assessor's site and emphasized safety and potential legal concerns associated with AI usage when assisting constituents.

A.C.E., developed by Assessor Technician Aaron Newe, exemplifies the office's dedication to leveraging current technologies for enhanced constituent support. The chatbot is capable of handling phone calls and providing accurate responses to call-in questions.
