Tennis and pickleball enthusiasts in Albuquerque have new opportunities to engage in their favorite sports with the reopening of resurfaced courts at Lauren C. Bolles Park and Jerry Cline Tennis Center. The City is promoting active lifestyles by hosting community celebrations and "Play Days" on December 20 and 21, where instructors will be available to guide participants.

Mayor Tim Keller emphasized the benefits of these activities, stating, “Playing tennis and pickleball is a great way for families to get out, get active, and take advantage of these sunny winter days we’re getting.” He highlighted the quality amenities and community engagement as key factors contributing to Albuquerque parks' high national ranking.

Parks and Recreation Director Dave Simon described the new facilities as an asset for the community. “Fresh courts at LC Bolles Park and Jerry Cline Tennis Center are an ‘ace’ for our community,” he said. Simon noted that such initiatives support players of all ages, enhancing Albuquerque's appeal as a family-friendly city.

The renovation at Lauren C. Bolles Park involved resurfacing four tennis courts with dual play striping for both tennis and pickleball. This project was fully funded by Representative Debra Sariñana with $180,000, marking the first update since 2004. At Jerry Cline Tennis Center, eight out of eighteen courts have been resurfaced so far. Plans include further improvements in 2025 with additional court resurfacing and new LED lighting installations.

Representative Debbie Sariñana expressed pride in supporting these projects aimed at fostering healthy activity and wellness within the community. She stated, “These investments improve neighborhoods and benefit the entire City.”

Funding for Jerry Cline’s court enhancements came from contributions by Rep. Debbie Sariñana along with Reps. Marian Matthews, Elizabeth Thomson, Gail Chasey, and former Rep. Christine Trujillo. The LED light retrofits will be financed through state capital outlay combined with City Funds focused on energy conservation.
