Since the start of the year, Albuquerque's Planning Department's Code Enforcement Division has made significant progress in ensuring properties comply with city ordinances. The division has successfully brought 11,198 properties into compliance and issued 14,464 Violation Notices for issues such as overgrown weeds and litter. Additionally, 202 previously substandard homes have been rehabilitated, and 31 unsafe structures have been demolished, mostly by property owners following intervention from Code Enforcement.

Mayor Tim Keller emphasized the importance of these efforts: "Buildings that have become dilapidated may be considered dangerous and can often threaten the health and safety of the surrounding neighborhoods. The Code Enforcement team has made huge strides this past year in identifying and removing these unsafe properties, as well as enforcing city ordinances to help keep our community clean and safe."

The division responds to community complaints through the city's 311 service and conducts inspections to ensure compliance with code requirements. Their approach combines education, resource referral, assistance, and enforcement.

Jeremy Keiser, Deputy Director of the Planning Department, stated: “Every property we bring into compliance represents a step toward a safer and stronger community. By addressing dangerous conditions and encouraging positive changes, we’re building a foundation for long-term neighborhood stability and quality of life.”

Code Enforcement also oversees the Problematic Properties Program. This initiative targets properties that pose public nuisances such as abandoned or substandard homes draining city resources or unsafe buildings needing demolition.

Residents are encouraged to report violations by calling 311 with detailed descriptions and locations.
