The Women's Resource Center at The University of New Mexico is organizing a workshop focused on financial abuse as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Financial abuse, often overlooked, is a form of domestic violence that the center aims to address through this event.
Speakers for the workshop include Tara Hackel, a finance coach and founder of Adopt a Debtor, and Aine McCarthy, director of the Women's Resource Center. They will discuss topics such as recognizing signs of financial abuse, identifying trustworthy individuals to discuss financial matters with, and resources available for escaping financial abuse and predatory loans.
The workshop is scheduled to take place at the Women's Resource Center located in Mesa Vista Hall on UNM's main campus. It will be held on Monday, October 21, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
"Developing your financial wisdom & discernment is key to promoting self-reliance, boosting confidence, and setting yourself up for success," states the flyer promoting the event.
This initiative is in collaboration with UNM's Center for Financial Capability. More details about this workshop and other events hosted by the Women's Resource Center can be found on their website: women.unm.edu
