The Department of Senior Affairs and the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 412 collaborated for the 32nd annual Project HEAT'S ON. This initiative, held on October 12, 2024, focuses on providing heating system checks and startups for low-income older adults in Albuquerque.

More than 50 volunteers from Local 412 participated by offering their time and skills to assist numerous families. Their efforts included turning on heating systems, testing and installing smoke detectors, conducting carbon monoxide safety checks, and winterizing air conditioning units.

Mayor Tim Keller highlighted the community's willingness to help: "One of the best things about Albuquerque is how ready everyone is to lend a hand, and HEAT’S ON is yet another perfect example of that." He emphasized the importance of caring for older adults during colder months and acknowledged Local 412's contribution.

The Department of Senior Affairs collaborates annually with Local 412 to identify older adults who need assistance. Many beneficiaries are on fixed incomes or have limited mobility. Over three decades, this program has supported thousands of families in Albuquerque.

Anna Sanchez, Director of Senior Affairs, stated: "HEAT’S ON is all about supporting our older adults and ensuring they can remain comfortable and independent in their homes." She expressed gratitude towards Local 412 for their ongoing partnership in delivering this essential service.
