The ABQ BioPark and the City of Albuquerque Open Space Division are organizing a community event focused on restoration projects in the bosque and at Tingley Beach. Scheduled for Saturday, October 19, the event will commence at 8 a.m., inviting volunteers to engage in activities such as trail maintenance, revegetation, and trash clean-up.
Participants will gather at the Tingley Beach shuttle station building where morning snacks will be provided before starting their work. The event also offers an educational component with hands-on discovery stations about local wildlife available for both volunteers and guests. At the conclusion of the activities, a raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses will take place.
"Being a major urban area, Albuquerque is so fortunate to also have such an amazing natural space with the Rio Grande river and bosque running right through town," stated Matthew Peterson, associate director of ABQ BioPark. "Dia del Rio gives us all an opportunity to protect our river by volunteering some time to ensure the wellbeing of the plants and wildlife in our city."
Volunteers are advised to bring sturdy footwear, work gloves, water, sunglasses, sunscreen, and optionally a hat. Due to limited parking availability, carpooling is encouraged. Registration is required prior to participation via the One ABQ Volunteers website. Group participation or registration assistance can be coordinated through Jim Sattler at [email protected].
