The Balloon Fiesta Park is set to host the 52nd International Balloon Fiesta, showcasing recent improvements made possible by significant investments. These enhancements include increased parking, better pedestrian access, more restrooms, and improved public safety measures. The park now features a new 23-acre parking lot on a former Honeywell site, acquired with capital outlay funding.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham expressed pride in the state's investment, stating: “Today’s announcement marks a major milestone for Balloon Fiesta Park as a world-class destination that brings thousands of visitors and millions of dollars in revenue to Albuquerque each year.”
AIBF Board President Judy Nakamura emphasized the importance of community support: “Balloon Fiesta is so proud of this event and what it does to promote ballooning, Albuquerque and our state. As a nonprofit entity, we cannot possibly garner all of the resources we need to make this event succeed."
Additional upgrades at the park include 19 new security cameras offering multiple views, an ADA-compliant sidewalk on Balloon Fiesta Parkway's north side, and infrastructure for restroom trailers. Other improvements address stormwater drainage issues and enhance electrical capacity for various event areas.
Mayor Keller highlighted the significance of these developments: “For over half a century, this iconic tradition has been our opportunity to showcase Albuquerque to the world. Every year we learn how we can enhance the experience even more, and this year we’re investing more than $20 million into the park to ensure families enjoy the best, safest fiesta ever.”
