The City of Albuquerque has launched an initiative through its Office of Black Community Engagement to create racially equitable spaces for Black and African-identifying employees. This effort acknowledges the challenges faced by marginalized communities within government institutions, aiming to foster a sense of belonging and support.

The mission is to provide sanctuary spaces for city and state employees who identify as Black or African. The program also seeks to energize Black-owned businesses and build community networks. "We know that being seen matters, culture matters, people matter," the statement reads.

The Office is committed to supporting entrepreneurship within the Black community while fostering a healthy ecosystem for building networks within CABQ. The initiative recognizes that affinity spaces can enhance trust, team building, and employee belongingness.
