ALBUQUERQUE - City Councilor Klarissa Peña has announced the passing of Geraldine Ulibarri, a community leader and dedicated volunteer. Ulibarri passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, service, and commitment to the community.
"Geraldine was a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend," Peña stated. "Her passion for improving the lives of others, along with her extraordinary leadership and tireless dedication, has had a significant impact on our city."
Ulibarri served as Vice President of the West Central Community Development Group and the Southwest Alliance of Neighborhoods. She was also a member of the Board of the Avalon Neighborhood Association. Her contributions included work on the Route 66 Visitors Center, Ken Sanchez Fire Station 7, Central and Unser Library, and West Gate Community Center.
"Throughout her decades of service, Geraldine inspired countless individuals with her kindness, resilience, and generosity," Peña said. "Her ability to bring people together made her an irreplaceable part of our city's fabric."
Peña extended condolences to Ulibarri’s family and friends. "We recognize that this loss is deeply felt across our community," she said. "We stand united in honoring Geraldine's remarkable life and contributions."
Councilor Klarissa Peña represents District 3, which includes the Southwest Mesa and parts of the South Valley from Central Ave south and west of the Rio Grande in Albuquerque.
