The City of Albuquerque today unveiled the new headquarters for the Albuquerque Community Safety Department (ACS) to local media. The 10,800-square-foot facility, situated in the International District, will accommodate ACS staff and programs while also serving as a community resource center. This marks the first headquarters for an alternative health response department in the nation.

The building includes space for ACS Responders and staff, along with a dedicated training area. It features a collaborative environment where community members, partners, responders, and administrative staff can share ideas and work together.

“This building is a reflection of our commitment to the community,” said ACS Acting Director Jodie Esquibel. “We look forward to making the International District home as we continue to provide the right response at the right time across our city.”

Since its establishment two and a half years ago, ACS has responded to over 75,000 calls. Previously, many of these would have been handled by police or fire departments. Currently, ACS manages approximately 3,000 911 calls each month, allowing police and fire services to focus on serious crimes or life-threatening situations.

“This new headquarters solidifies Albuquerque Community Safety as the third branch of emergency response,” stated Mayor Tim Keller. “ACS was created based on feedback from our community, and we look forward to continuing to grow the department to meet needs all over our city.”

Located in the International District Market, the new headquarters aims to ensure that ACS remains connected with local communities. The $10 million project was funded through General Obligation Bonds.

Further expansion of ACS is planned with the opening of the Southwest Safety Center north of 98th Street and Rio Bravo in 2025. This facility will house staff from APD (Albuquerque Police Department), AFR (Albuquerque Fire Rescue), and ACS.
