Albuquerque Police Department detectives have made an arrest in connection with the shooting death of Travis Sheckler. Nathan Sheckler, the brother of the victim, has been taken into custody following a tragic incident that occurred at a Northeast Heights home.

According to reports, the altercation between the two brothers escalated into a fight, resulting in the fatal shooting. The mother of the siblings provided details to the authorities, stating that she witnessed Nathan, 28, shooting Travis, 35, after a physical confrontation. She recounted the events leading up to the shooting, mentioning that Nathan asked Travis to leave his bedroom before the tragic incident unfolded.

The mother also disclosed to homicide detectives that Travis had a history of mental illness and drug abuse. She revealed that Travis had displayed anger towards Nathan in the past, leading to previous confrontations involving a rifle. The authorities had responded to an incident just days before the shooting, where Travis was identified as the aggressor, indicating a pattern of escalating tensions between the brothers.

Following the shooting, Nathan fled the scene but later expressed remorse in a text message to his mother. Subsequently, a warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was apprehended at a local motel and booked into the Metro Detention Center on a charge of murder.

The tragic event underscores the importance of addressing mental health issues and conflicts within families to prevent such devastating outcomes. The investigation into the shooting death of Travis Sheckler remains ongoing as authorities work to uncover further details surrounding the incident.
