The role of a Building Code Inspector/Plan Reviewer will focus on their area of discipline (building, plumbing and mechanical, or electric). New construction and renovation projects are inspected for compliance with adopted codes. Plan review for all permits will ensure projects meet minimum code requirements. Building Code Inspector/Plan Reviewers must be willing to help guide the industry and provide options for design submittals.
Career advancement opportunities are available for employees who demonstrate proficiency and obtain necessary certifications and experience. Funding for continuing education and certifications are provided by Bernalillo County. Specialty training opportunities may also be available based on need.
This position plays an integral role in the safe and appropriate development of our community. The Planning and Development Services department serves many layers of commercial and residential development projects, which include:
• Underlying zoning,
• Land use and planning,
• GIS mapping,
• Building plan review,
• Building code inspection
