Democratic Party of New Mexico issued the following announcement on June 13.

DPNM Chair: “I’m thrilled for us to be heading into the general election with so many incredible leaders on our ticket.”

The Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) tonight held a Virtual Unity Rally that brought together Democratic candidates and officials to celebrate the accomplishments of 2020 so far and look forward to a successful general election. Hundreds of voters joined the Zoom call to express their support for Democratic candidates.

Viewers heard from New Mexico’s leading Democrats, including Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich, Representatives Ben Ray Luján, Deb Haaland and Xochitl Torres Small, Candidate for U.S. House Teresa Leger Fernandez , Senate Majority Leader Peter Wirth, Senate Majority Whip Mimi Stewart, NM House Speaker Brian Egolf, Justices Shannon Bacon and David Thomson, Judges Zach Ives and Shammara Henderson and DPNM Chair Marg Elliston.

Speakers emphasized the importance of electing Democrats in light of President Trump’s failure to lead effectively and compassionately. They highlighted massive Democratic turnout in New Mexico’s primary elections and promised to continue to build on that enthusiasm in order to keep New Mexico blue in 2020.

“I’ve been talking about this moment for a long time, and now that the primary is over, I’m so excited to see Democrats coming together as a strong united front,” said DPNM Chair Marg Elliston. “I’m thrilled for us to be heading into the general election with so many incredible leaders on our ticket. Democrats have already faced some unprecedented challenges this year, but record Democratic primary turnout shows that there is no obstacle we cannot overcome. Now we’re ready to keep that momentum going straight through November!”
