Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) Superintendent Raquel Reedy scheduled two days of deep cleaning exercises for all schools after Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham declared a state of emergency for residents of New Mexico.

The announcement came following confirmation from the New Mexico Department of Health that there are at least two local cases of coronavirus and possibly a third.

According to media reports, APS banned travel outside of New Mexico for school workers and enrolled children and teens while Reedy released a statement asking sick students to refrain from entering the schools.

"If students are ill, the absence will be excused,” Reedy told KQRE. “There are more questions than answers at this point. Questions about school closures, group gatherings, spring break travel and many more are all being discussed at the district level. We will share all decisions, updates and school-specific advisories with you as the information becomes available."
