The University of New Mexico is hosting Open Education Week from March 3 to March 7, 2025. This global event focuses on advancing open education and promoting equitable access to knowledge. It provides a platform for educators, students, and advocates worldwide to engage in discussions and workshops that highlight the latest achievements in open education.

UNM has organized several events for this year's celebration. Faculty, students, and community members are invited to explore the benefits of Open Educational Resources (OER) and innovative learning practices.

The schedule includes:

- On March 4, from 12 to 1 p.m., an online "Open Textbook Review Workshop" will be held. This session will focus on reviewing open textbooks to enhance accessibility and affordability in education. Faculty who attend are eligible for a $200 stipend for reviewing a textbook in the Open Textbook Library.

- On March 5, from noon to 1 p.m., there will be an "OER Presentation & Creative Book Crafts" at Zimmerman Library B30. Attendees can learn about OER, participate in a Creative Commons matching game, do crafts with old textbooks, and enjoy snacks. The presentation will cover the basics of Open Educational Resources, their benefits and examples, as well as open licenses and Creative Commons.

- A similar session titled "OER Presentation & Creative Book Crafts" will occur on March 6 from noon to 1 p.m. at Zimmerman Library Frank Waters Room 105.

- On March 7, from noon to 1 p.m., an online session called "Finding and Evaluating Open Materials for Accessibility" will take place. This practical session aims at discovering and assessing open materials to ensure accessibility and inclusivity in education.

These events aim to demonstrate how open education can break down barriers to learning while fostering collaboration and creating more inclusive educational environments.

For more information about OE Week or UNM’s events registration details can be found at goto.unm.edu/oerevents or by visiting the OE Worldwide site.
