Property owners in Bernalillo County now have an opportunity to receive financial assistance for restoring or improving their properties through a new program called "Cost to Cure." This initiative allows for one-time reductions in the fair market value of properties, covering all expenses related to bringing them up to optimal condition.

"Cost to Cure is a powerful incentive for investment and to revitalize property and our community," stated BernCo Assessor Damian Lara. "There's no minimum or maximum that can be claimed and it covers any defect and deficiency."

To qualify for a reduction in fair market value for the tax year, property owners must provide receipts as evidence of their expenses. These valuation reductions will appear on the Notice of Value sent to property owners each April.

For those interested, detailed information and applications are available at BernCo.gov/Assessor by clicking on the "Cost to Cure" tab.

"We want to revitalize Bernalillo County and have our community looking its best. Cost to Cure is a great way to help pay for the work," added Assessor Lara.

For further inquiries about "Cost to Cure" or other matters related to the Assessor's Office, residents can use A.C.E., the online chatbot at BernCo.gov/Assessor, or contact customer service at 505-222-3700.
