Cindy Chavez assumes role as Bernalillo County Manager

Cindy Chavez is set to begin her role as the new Bernalillo County Manager on November 13. With extensive experience in public service, Chavez will be responsible for overseeing county operations and enhancing residents' quality of life.

Chavez's background includes serving as a Santa Clara County supervisor and vice mayor of San Jose, where she focused on public health, affordable housing, and criminal justice reform. Her leadership is anticipated to positively influence Bernalillo County as she addresses community needs.

"The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners would like to extend a very warm welcome to Ms. Chavez," stated Barbara Baca, Chair of the BernCo Board of Commissioners. "After a national search and a professional hiring process, we are excited to welcome Ms. Chavez, whose commitment to public service and experience in local government can be brought to bear here as the chief executive of Bernalillo County."

Chavez has a degree from San Jose State University and has been involved in various regional boards and commissions throughout her career. She aims to improve county operations, drive strategic initiatives, and support the growth and development of Bernalillo County.

Her selection as the new county manager was confirmed during a meeting of the BernCo Board of Commissioners on August 27, 2024.
