Bernalillo County celebrated the completion of "Windforms," a public art mural at its Alvarado Square headquarters. The mural, standing at 123 feet tall, is now recognized as the tallest in New Mexico. It features a vibrant design reflecting Albuquerque's landscapes.

Artist Ivan Toth Depeña created the mural to integrate with the building’s architecture. He drew inspiration from the colors of Albuquerque skies, the Rio Grande, the bosque, and the Sandia Mountains. Its abstract design captures the natural forces and rhythms of the high desert environment.

The event also included an announcement regarding increased funding for public art. Earlier this year, the Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved raising funding from 1% to 1.5% for acquiring and commissioning public artworks. This decision emphasizes BernCo's commitment to supporting local artists and enhancing public spaces.

The "Windforms" project had a budget of $200,000 funded through Bernalillo County’s Art in Public Places Ordinance. Since its inception in 1992, this program has purchased or commissioned nearly 700 artworks, enriching community culture.
