The City of Albuquerque has introduced the Window to Opportunity grant to support businesses impacted by vandalism. This initiative, a collaboration between the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) and the Economic Development Department's Small Business Office, aims to ease the financial burden of replacing or repairing damaged windows for small businesses.

“We stand by our local businesses and are finding new ways to support them,” said Mayor Tim Keller. “For a small business, the cost of vandalism can be devastating, and folks can get back to business sooner.”

The program offers a total of $200,000 in grants. Eligible applicants include brick-and-mortar businesses with 25 or fewer employees, 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) non-profit organizations, and educational entities within Albuquerque city limits.

Grants will cover up to 80% of window replacement or repair costs, with a maximum reimbursement of $5,000 per business. An additional $1,000 is available for incorporating environmentally sustainable “green” glass or security glass into repairs.

"By addressing window damage promptly, we can help ensure that our city remains a safe place for everyone, and a supportive place to do business,” said Senior Economic Developer Frankie Hermosillo. “We are always looking for ways to adapt to the needs of our local business community and get them the help they need.”

To qualify for the grant, incidents must have occurred on or after September 1, 2024. Applicants must provide appropriate documentation including a police report and timestamped photos of both damaged and repaired windows. Those with incidents occurring from July 1 through August 31, 2024 are eligible if they enroll in the APD Business Crime Prevention Security Survey.

Applications can be submitted online at cabq.gov/windowgrant.

This new initiative builds on the successful July 2020 Glass Replacement program which supported Downtown properties by extending similar aid across Albuquerque.
