As flooding becomes more of an issue across New Mexico, exacerbated by recent wildfires and erosion, Roswell City is struggling.
Parts of the city are under water, according to a report by KOB 4 News. Many residents, in recent days, attempted desperately to dry out their homes in the aftermath of the flooding.
One of the hardest hit areas in Roswell is the Holly Loop area, KOB 4 reported. Residents in the area say they have dealt with this before, and that street drainage has repeatedly proven to be insufficient.
"Supposedly for five blocks, this is the only drain and it’s costing every one of these homeowners money, time lost and heartache,” said Kay Lykins, a resident of Roswell. “And I just think it needs to be addressed."
Until the problem is addressed, residents are left trying to help their neighbors dry out their homes using pumps to remove water, according to KOB 4. If there is additional rain or flooding, it could worsen the situation exponentially.
Flooding has become more severe due to erosion and soil damage caused by recent wildfires, KOB 4 reported.
