Cost of college went up for all students at Central New Mexico Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3 percent for 2018-19 at Central New Mexico Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New Mexico residents paid $1,626 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $48 more than the $1,578 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 351.3 percent more than residents this year, or $7,338. Their price tag grew 2.3 percent from $7,170 in 2017-18.

About 87 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New Mexico residents. And about 1 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 80 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 1,567 students received grants or scholarships totaling $7.1 million and 223 students took out student loans totaling more than $610,814.

Including all undergraduates (23,553), 9,024 students used grants or scholarships totaling $43.8 million, and 2,617 students took out $9.2 million in federal student loans.
