Cost of college went up for all students at the University of New Mexico-Main Campus

In-state tuition and fees rose 2.5 percent for 2018-19 at the University of New Mexico-Main Campus, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New Mexico residents paid $7,633 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $185 more than the $7,448 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 195.9 percent more than residents this year, or $22,586. Their price tag grew 2.5 percent from $22,038 in 2017-18.

About 83 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New Mexico residents. About 14 percent are residents of other states and 2 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 96 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,042 students received grants or scholarships totaling $19.6 million and 1,819 students took out student loans totaling more than $10.8 million.

Including all undergraduates (24,319), 18,886 students used grants or scholarships totaling $91.3 million, and 9,802 students took out $69.7 million in federal student loans.
