The Republican party of New Mexico highlighted Rep. Kelly Fajardo's appointment to the 2020 election cycle leadership team for the Republican State Leadership Committee's (RSLC) Right Women, Right Now initiative in a Facebook post on March 2.
The initiative aims to help Republican women candidates get elected by identifying, training and supporting them.
"Female leaders of tomorrow are on the rise in the Republican Party,” Fajardo said in a RSLC press release on March 2. “We are fighting for tax cuts, job creation, better schools and issues that matter most to families."
Since 2012, RSLC has invested over $28 million in conservative women candidates, helping approximately 670 of them get elected into office.
“Through the efforts of Right Women, Right Now, we are ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table," Sharon Hewitt, Louisiana Senate majority leader, said in the press release.
The purpose of the Right Women, Right Now leadership team is to create "a bench of elected leadership who will serve as mentors to candidates who are looking to learn from women who paved the way before them," Edith Jorge-Tuñón, RSLC political director said in the press release.
Fajardo's own journey started back in 2012 when she was elected to represent District 7 in the legislature. After two years of service, she was elected to serve as caucus chair for the House Republicans. As she is a mother to three boys, Fajardo focused her legislative efforts on bringing the Child Advocacy Center to Valencia County. Currently, Fajardo serves on the House Commerce and Economic Development and House Local Government and Cultural Affairs committees.
"I look forward to working with this distinguished group of leaders to make sure the right women are elected in the states," Fajardo said in the press release.
