The University of New Mexico is set to host its annual Undergraduate Research Opportunity Conference (UROC) on April 11. The event, showcasing research from undergraduate students across various disciplines, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Student Union Building.
Tim Schroeder, Director of the Undergraduate Research, Arts and Design Network (URAD), emphasized the importance of the conference. "As New Mexico’s premier R1 institution, UNM provides our undergraduate students in every discipline regular opportunities to work closely with faculty mentors on groundbreaking research across an ever-widening variety of disciplines," Schroeder said.
UNM's R1 designation signifies its status among the nation's leading research institutions. The conference will feature a mix of oral presentations, elevator pitch competitions, and video game displays. An awards ceremony is planned for the close of the event.
Highlighting UROC this year is the UNM Grand Challenge Undergraduate Water and Climate Science Communication Fellows presentations. Supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the UNM ARID Institute, these sessions pair students with mentors to create communication projects based on ongoing water or climate research.
A scheduled in-person presentation will take place from 2-5 p.m. in SUB Acoma A/B, with an option to join via Zoom.
UROC is supported by multiple UNM bodies, including the Office of Academic Affairs, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Engineering Student Success Center.
